The Ninth Annual JDRF Gala, "Vintage Las Vegas - Betting on a Cure," held on May 3, 2008 at the Denver Marriott City Center was a wonderful success. With the support of our sponsors, auction donors, and attendees we were able to raise $675,000 for diabetes research. JDRF celebrated the leadership of Kate Paul and Delta Dental as Honoree. The more than 525 guests enjoyed great food, festivities, and fabulous entertainment by Mark and The Martinis, a Rat Pack ensemble from Las Vegas. Showgirls donned in beautiful red costumes greeted the guests and escorted them to the Silent Auction where the atmosphere was like the inside of a casino.
The Gala, under the leadership of Co-Chairs Stacy Preblud and Jeff Robinson provided an ideal forum to increase public awareness of type 1 diabetes and to raise funds to find a cure. Highlights of the evening included Jim Benemann, Anchor, KCNC 4 News at Ten, who was our gracious emcee, a live auction with 11 one-of-a-kind items including owners box seat tickets to see the Broncos-Patriots game on Monday night football, an adorable puppy, a trip to Las Vegas for 4 on a private jet with luxurious accommodations and show tickets while there, and a Magness Limousine cow! Our trademark "Tractor Party" donated by Wagner Equipment Company sold two times! Together with the silent auction of 175 items, the auction raised an amazing $ 125,000.
Jay Leeuwenburg, Peter and Sue Baird and their son Will delivered emotional speeches about the reality of life with type 1 diabetes and their hope for the cure. The Ninth Annual Fund A Cure followed their presentation, in which patrons had the opportunity to make a direct contribution towards research.
The Rocky Mountain Chapter extends a sincere thank you to all of those who contributed to the success of this year's Gala through their attendance, donation of auction items, sponsorship and volunteer participation, all of whom have a passion for a cure that just won't quit.
